The Omnipotence Paradox
Ok, let’s say assume there is a God, and he can do anything. That means he can create a task he cannot do, thus he cannot do everything.
However, if he cannot create an impossible task, that means he still cannot do everything.
Mind=blown.
That’s like asking: “Is it possible to get so smart that you become even smarter than yourself?”
The popular question is: Can God make a boulder so heavy that He cannot lift?
One may reply: Well, God is omnipotent, so he can do anything. So yes, He can make a boulder that He cannot lift. But that path leads to a contradiction into what the person of God is, for how can He do something he cannot do?
One may reply: No, God cannot make make that boulder. Then the person who asked the question would reply, but I thought God can do anything.
This question has a double question/meaning, which assumes a point that has not yet been proven. It is similar in asking a question to a person: Did you beat your wife before or after you were drunk? Questions like this already implies an assumed point that has not yet been proven or wrongfully inserted.
Another popular one that I remember in my younger days is: Does your mom know your gay? This question renders the person speechless, because he never admitted to be gay in the first place. So whether he says no or yes, he would’ve admitted to be gay.
It should reassure man that God cannot do every single thing. God cannot lie. God cannot contradict Himself, God cannot cheat, God cannot go back on His promises. These instances of what God cannot do does not make him any less powerful or less omnipotent. For the inability to cause evil does not make a person “weaker.”
However, another stimulating perspective came through a search in wikipedia (it’s quite informative). The answer would be Yes, God would make a boulder he cannot lift. But since God operates beyond the laws of the universe and this time frame. God will make a boulder He cannot lift, then lift it.
